Research Interests

My laboratory is currently investigating several specific areas of interest.  Feel free to contact me to discuss these topics in more detail.

Independent projects conducted in this laboratory:

  • Sex steroid regulation of adrenal function

  • Effects of sex and adrenal steroids on cardiovascular and renal function

  • Role of sex and adrenal steroids in pathophysiology of natural aging

  • Role of sex and adrenal steroids in the development of psychiatric disorders

  • Effects of sex and adrenal steroids on feeding behaviors and body weight regulation

In conjunction with the Center for Biological Modulators at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, my laboratory studies the development of novel selective estrogen receptor modulators for the prevention of postmenopausal symptoms.

My laboratory also participates in the NIH-funded Obstetric-Fetal Pharmacology Research Unit (OPRU) http://gcrcdata1.med.pitt.edu/opru/.  As part of this research unit, we are interested in:

  • Effects of pregnancy on the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of neurooactive drugs and the effects of these drugs on fetal neuronal development

  • Development of a model of preterm delivery in guinea pigs.

  • Effects of 17-hydroxyprogesterone caproate on pregnancy duration.
